Help please, broken laptop

Recommended Posts

Hi my laptop failed yesterday with my casino wallet on it. Don't know the secret key but have my passwords.

I've managed to salvage the hardrive and connect it to a very old laptop running vista - which is practically useless for anything, internet browsing etc. So can't download another wallet.

But I've located the .casinocoin folder - is there anyway i can get this working on the mobile wallet using the ,casinocoin folder?

It's not a massive amount but would like to get it back if possible - sorry for being thick but I didn't realise that you needed a secret key I thought the recovery password was all you needed. doh

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Reading that thread it looks like if I have the folder its possible - will contact @Daniel Kellerand see if he can help me

yeah, create a couple of copies of the .casinocoin folder just in case :classic_biggrin:

I see the following available on GitHub to dump keys from the .casinocoin  folder so it must be possible.

Hi guys -  Does anyone know if @Daniel Keller is still active on here? Or if there is anyone else who could help with this? Ive emailed casinocoin support but not had a reply (i understand they will be really busy)

Ive managed to attach the old hard drive to another laptop and the .casinocoin folder is there with all the files - the db.5 file has the private key, public key and secret key but they are all encrypted so i presume there must be a way of getting the secret key i need? I can also see my wallet details balance and all my transactions to and from the exchanges which i could verify if needed.

Any help appreciated folks ty

Not sure if the CasinoCoin team can help with something like this.

Because the files are encrypted, you won't be able to access them.  They are encrypted that way for a reason.

The only way to access your wallet is with the pvt key.

Question why would they be  encrypted?  if  its the same hard drive?

I thought you needed a secret key? Which I didn't have as a back up I only had my backup passwords saved as I thought that's all you needed?

When I do a fresh install of the wallet on the new laptop I see that a new .keys file is created and see the secret key in there in c:\documents and a .casinocoin folder created in c\users\username

My problem is I don't have the. keys file on the old hard drive but I do have the old .casinocoin folder and I can see in there a file which when opened in notepad shows private key, public key and secret key but they are very big and look nothing like the one in the .keys file so i presume something needs to happen to create this .keys file.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Daniel said if you had the .casinocoin folder he could get the secret key?

Thanks guys for the replies by the way

I may be doing something wrong but I don't have the .keys file I only have the .casinocoin folder with no secret key?

Don't I need the secret key to import a wallet?

When you open that file... Do you see something like this??...

Navigate to the previously selected location and look for a file with a file name like: 2018-09-04-19-26-21-e9f94216-b6a4-fdab-39b1-f4929fecc971.keys (YOURS WILL HAVE A DIFFERENT NAME!!!). Open that file with any kind of editor, I am using Sublime here. The file will look something like this:

FOUpkei.png

The part we are looking for is the "secret" bit. Write it down. You will have to type it on your Mobile Wallet without the "".

Head to your Mobile and open your wallet. On your main screen click on "+Add Account"

Yes I see this file in c:\documents but isn't that the .keys file for the new installation I've done on the new laptop? Therefore is that not the secret key linked to this new installation  and not the one on my old hardrive? Does that make sense?

Mmm... I mean... When you open the files of the old Hard Drive... Do you see something like that?? Because that file contains the secret key of your old wallet.

If you installed a new wallet on the new laptop, those files should be totally different from the old ones.

no there is no .keys on the old hardrive

There is only the .casinocoin folder (sure Daniel said that was enough to work with on one thread)

In this folder there a few files which contain things such as the amount of coins I had, the transactions with the exchanges etc.

There is also one file db.5 file i think it was, which has the private, public and secret keys - these i am presuming are then somehow used to create the .keys file.

This is an example of one from an old wallet I had. I've deleted some bits In case I've posted any Info I shouldn't. As you can see the keys are huge and in no way resemble a private, public, secret key you find in .keys file (hope this makes sense)

Maybe you should join CSC Discord @Yorkies There is a guy there who has volunteered there to solve problems like yours, if possible.
Don´t put all your hopes in Daniel, he is pretty busy running other Foundation stuff right now.

Zen

I haven't used it but this seems to be the app the guy on discord used to extract the secret key from the default wallet location.
