Lost Private Key But Have Recovery Passphrase - AM I SCREWED?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I had problem with my PC and formatted the hard drive.  I had a backup of my passphrase but nothing else.

Is there any way to recovery my coins? I've got a fair amount in my wallet and will be devastated if I'm unable to recover.

Many thanks

Here is a link to a tool, that might help you to get back data from your reformatted harddrive.

https://www.easeus.com/ad/format-recovery.htm?gclid=Cj0KCQiAhKviBRCNARIsAAGZ7Cfyjtijfoz1x1nd4xthfsr-YgfdNTaQtkTplizNMSxlyARW1dlVDoUaAhZAEALw_wcB

That might help you to get access to the ".casinocoin" Folder in Windows/User/..... from there, you should be able to carry on with the help of other more techie guys than me.

I've just checked my emails and found the wallet address when I transferred coins from the exchange.  Will this help in any way?

Hello, if you did not backup your secret key by exporting it outside of your harddisk that was formated then there is no way of recovering your account/ coins .

Unfortunately having your address does not help, and there is no way to recover your secret key from your address.

I can see my balance here by entering my wallet address here:

https://explorer.casinocoin.org/address/

Is there anything else at all anyone can recommend to retrieve them?

Its fairly simple, you formatted your hard drive and lost your keys.

The phrase won't help you out nor the address or balance will. Without your private keys you won't be able to retrieve them...

I am sorry for your loss :classic_sad:

Thanks, I've already tried this software and am in the process of trying a few others.  Because it was an SSD that was formatted, it's only recovering data from today.  It doesn't seem to find any data prior to today.  I'm keep trying though...

In short no.

This is the harsh beauty of crypto currency, you are responsible for your own keys and coins no one else .

If I was in your position I would remove the ssd disk from your laptop immediately.  Do not install any software on it.  Get one of these cables

https://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-SATA-Adapter-Cable-Drives-en-GB-SATA-USB-3-0-converter/dp/B01N2JIQR7

Connect the disk to another laptop on which you install several recovery software  and run a scan and then cross your fingers at the same time.

Thanks for the advice. I've already installed Windows 10 and various data recovery softwares. I'll try your method to see if it helps.

Thanks

How many CSC are we talking about in this thread?  I might have missed that info.

Just over 2 million which for me was a lot but a drop in the ocean for most. I guess I'll just have to re-invest and move on. Harsh lesson learned.

Do not underestimate 2 Mill CSC. Imagine owning 2 Mill XRP bought at the price where CSC is now.
I shure understand your concern @Ed101 and I really hope you will be able to get your CSC back.

Thanks @Zenkert and everyone for all your support. Im going to keep trying to recover ny data using as many different data recovery tools as possible.

It's a shame all the software I've tried so far has only been able to recover data from today in C:/Documents/.CasinoCoin. I believe this is the default destination to where the keys are saved

Hi, same thing happened to me some time ago. The default folder for the saved key was C:/Documents for me and this is where I found it. Look for .keys file inside your computer and in /Documents

I've already checked but the old .keys file isn't there. It has been replaced with the new .keys file associated to the new wallet which I installed after formatting the drive.
