Unikrn potentially competition?

Recommended Posts

Came across this today. They have a license from Isle of Man for betting in esports gaming.

So now that they have a license how difficult would it be for them to pivot to what CSC is doing? E.g. suppose they already have planning /software in development...there is no way for us to know this right?

Also wondering why CSC chose MGA over IOM?

I don’t know what to think of this...If they become first to market.

Is this like a funfair then? Can only be used on their platform/website?

And do you know what was the advantage of MGA over Isle of Man?

They're after a different market than us though.  Could they become a competitor? Sure.  Any of them can.  But they have their own platform that they're trying to pull companies into.  That's almost the exact opposite of what CSC is trying to do.

They are centralized and CSC is decentralized, to summon it in 2 worn out phrases 🎲

IMHO, as others said, it could be. Still, the Foundation is pursuing a non-ICO’ed, fully issued coin supply approach (as mentioned by JC) that will be regulatory friendly in other jurisdictions like the U.S. So their should be minimal blockers when scaling. So “competition” is not just the tech capabilities but multi-jurisdiction presence too. IMHO.

As some of you may know, I did about 15 months with two of the smartest people I knew working on betting on esports. One of our partners was an advisor for Unikrn. While I personally believe in esports and absolutely LOVE the culture surrounding esports, I do not believe in betting on esports. I don't think it has much potential near or medium term. Unkrn is a good team who have been doing it a loooong time, so respect to them. The license is a good thing for them and I wish them all the best. I do not see them as 'competition' for us per se. At minimum, they are targeting a different market. - John Caldwell, Director of Advocacy.

Are we 100% sure they are not a threat?  Aren't they approaching it the same way as CSC?  - https://unikoingold.com/

I invested in the ICO so I follow them.  They also will also be going live in 41 states in the US (no date for the unveiling yet), and since over the summer the US Supreme Court made sports betting legal, they are expecting some good expansion.  Since it's now legal in the US they are looking forward to a national governing body to be formed to provide a path to for esports betting in the casinos.  For a long time they have had a venue at the MGM Grand and have plans to open more venues in other casinos.  The cool thing about Unikrn is that it allows for gamers to wager on themselves; so the video game tourneys at the casinos is looking like it's going to be just as big as the poker tourneys.  They aren't doing what CSC is doing; so ATM they're not competition, but as other have mentioned they certainly can become competition.  They're doing a great job at establishing themselves and gaining trust in the industry (they're based in Seattle, WA).  Only time will tell how this develops.  Like XRP, they're is one lawsuit that was filed for selling unlicensed securities, but it's clearly frivolous.

I don't get the whole betting on esports either, but the market is huge and expected to grow a in the billions over the next few years so don't sell it short.  A lot of current and former sports stars such as Michael Jordan invest big in this stuff.  I'm a huge sports fan and if you take notice all the NBA, NFL, etc. players are big gamers (they're still kids after all).

I am confused about one thing though.  They have a Malta Gaming Authority Wagering License.  I thought this didn't even open until November 1st.  My apologies in advance if I misread something.

I don't own CSC but I do own UKG. They may not be direct competitors right now but eventually will be years down the road. The difference is that Unikrn is focusing on their platform and bringing multiple utilities for their token.

* You can currently earn UKG on their Connekt platform by playing computer games, then turn around and spend it on Jackpots for a chance to win prizes and more UKG tokens.

* Users under the Isle of Man license will be able to bet as spectators using UKG.

* A large portion of the users will be able to bet on themselves in matches as skill betting is not gambling.

* They have a Bingo feature for people wstching streams to win prizes.

That's just the beginning. If you look at their unikoingold.com site, there is a section on whats coming next. One of the item is Unikrn Casino. No details on what that is yet, but it could be traditional casino games.

With all these utilities for their token they will draw more and more users. That in turn will draw various partners. So they may not start out as a standardize gambling token, but may end up as one if their popularity grows. Only time will tell.

That coin hit an ATH of $2.18 , it's now $0.04 cents. That's quite a drop!

I wouldn't use that as a metric. Ethereum went from $1200 to under $200 at the lowest point this year. Does that mean that it's shit? Price at this point doesnt mean anything for any tokens. It's all based on speculation. People pumping and dumping. The true test will be when the general public (not crypto enthusiasts) start using the tokens. Hence why utility is important for a token to survive.
